The episode features footage of Namanu Outdoor school from last spring as well as historical footage. It is pretty amazing how so many aspects of the program have stood the test of time. I went and watched the episode with the Outdoor School community and some staff from my 6th grade experience were there.
Some of my clearest memories from being a 6th grader are from Soil field study. My soil Student leader was named H-NIC which stood for "Has No Imperfect Characteristics" I have a clear memory of talking to him about whether or not he liked being a student leader. (I mean yes, of course this was the kind of human I was even at 11) I asked if he did not like kids. And he said that he did not like all the rules. (I am pretty sure I responded with something like "Ohhh" But I was thinking: "RULES?")
